Hiking & Trekking in Gold Coast

If you’re heading to the Gold Coast and want to escape the beach crowds for a bit, hiking is a fantastic way to see a different side of the region. Don’t just stick to the coast – inland, there’s some serious green space on offer.

One of my favourite spots is the Hinterland trails around Springbrook National Park. The walk to Purling Brook Falls is an easy one, but the crisp air and lush rainforest feel like stepping into another world. Early morning is the best time, not just for cooler temps but because you’re likely to spot birds or even a shy pademelon.

If you want something a bit more rugged, try the walk up to Mt Warning (though technically just outside the Gold Coast area, locals often hit it). The view from the top at sunrise is well worth the sweat. But if you prefer something close to town, the Burleigh Head National Park walk offers coastal views with a touch of rainforest – you can even catch surfers below from the clifftops.

Pro tip: take plenty of water and wear good shoes. Some tracks get muddy after rain and slip underfoot. Oh, and keep an eye out for snake alerts in summer! Exploring Gold Coast on foot will surprise you with pockets of quiet and cool spots away from the usual buzz.
