Alcotraz Gold Coast: Cell Block Two-Nine

Alcotraz Gold Coast is an immersive, prison-themed cocktail bar in Surfers Paradise that combines theatrical storytelling with a covert speakeasy setting. The experience draws on the atmosphere of Hollywood prison films and television, with a purpose-built environment shaped around cells, guards, inmates and a watchful Warden.

Rather than ordering from a conventional bar, guests become part of a bootlegging story. Contraband is exchanged for cocktails, while the inmate bartenders prepare drinks behind the prison-bar setting. The narrative gives the evening a playful sense of secrecy, with guests able to take an active role in the unfolding events or remain more observant as the characters move the story along.

The cast is central to the atmosphere. Inmates, guards and other characters interact with the room, creating opportunities for guests to make choices within the prison storyline. Allegiances can shift between helping an inmate gang, supplying information to the Warden or keeping a low profile. The result is part cocktail experience and part interactive theatre, with the setting and performances working together rather than acting as separate entertainment.

Cocktails are the focus of the offering, and the bar’s style is built around secrecy, corruption and bootlegging rather than a traditional food-led menu. The prison canteen conceit gives the drinks service a role in the narrative, making each order feel connected to the fictional operation inside the penitentiary.

The experience runs for about one hour and 45 minutes and is intended for guests aged 18 and over. An orange jumpsuit is provided on arrival, helping establish the setting before the story begins. The format suits adults looking for a social night with interactive performances, themed surroundings and cocktails, as well as groups marking birthdays, date nights, hens or bucks celebrations and team occasions. Private events and group bookings are also available for larger gatherings.

Located at 29 Cavill Ave in Surfers Paradise, Alcotraz offers a theatrical bar environment designed for participation, character interaction and a cinematic sense of place.
