Some of the Gold Coast's best scenery is found on the water, not beside it. This 90-minute guided kayak tour takes you through the quiet canals of Surfers Paradise past some of the coast's most impressive waterfront properties, and out to Macintosh Island, a quiet wildlife reserve that surprises almost every first-time visitor.
Choose the time of day that suits you. Morning and mid morning departures (8:00am or 10:30am) offer calm water with herons, cormorants and other waterbirds commonly spotted along the way. Or pick the sunset departure, timed seasonally so you're always on the water at golden hour — winding through the canals as the sky shifts to shades of gold and pink over the hinterland.
Meet your guide at Budds Beach, right in the centre of Surfers Paradise. You'll be on the water within minutes — no experience needed. The Nerang River is calm and sheltered, making this tour genuinely suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
As you paddle out, the Surfers Paradise skyline rises on one side while luxury waterfront homes line the banks on the other. Your guide will share stories about the area as you make your way toward Macintosh Island.
The highlight of the tour is Macintosh Island itself — a peaceful green reserve home to a resident community of peacocks, swans and geese, well accustomed to visitors and often happy to come right up to the water's edge. It's a genuine highlight, especially for families and photographers.

Important Information
- No change rooms at the departure point. Please arrive already wearing your swimwear or comfortable clothes you don't mind getting slightly wet.
This tour runs at different times depending on the option selected. Daytime departures are 8:00am and 10:30am. Sunset departures are seasonal, timed to align with golden hour: 5:00pm (summer), 4:00pm (autumn/spring), 3:30pm (winter). Please check your booking confirmation for the exact time and arrive 15 minutes early.
Fitness level: Easy. This is a relaxed, easy paddle suitable for all fitness levels and ages.
Non-swimmers are welcome — life jackets are worn at all times on the water. You do not need to be a confident swimmer.
Ages 6+ — guests under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All guests must sign a waiver; under-18s require a parent or guardian signature.
Sunset quality varies with weather. The tour runs in light rain; it will be rescheduled in the event of severe weather or a refund will be offered.
